The Old Lathe that Dad taught me to use.
This one was last panted in Apr 14 1898.
For $150, brother Don purchased the lathe from a neighbor of Grandpa Ambrisco's in Ebensburg PA. around 1958. The story is it was used in an old coal mine machine shop in Pennsevilina.
Dad rewired a standard elect motor to run two directions by flipping a switch.
I brought the lathe to my shop in Colorado and installed a Telemecamique ( Square D) veriable speed drive on it.
Using salvaged optic switches the drive runs a 3 phase 3/4 hp motor that stops automatically at the end of a cut. A cast brass plate with a chart mounted on the lathe depicting witch combination of gears to be installed to cut different threads on a piece of work. What fun!
